Diversity in the Sheth Lab
Our lab is committed to supporting and fostering all aspects of diversity. We strive to cultivate an inclusive environment where people from all backgrounds are respected and we especially welcome applicants from historically underrepresented or systemically excluded groups.
Postdocs
Prospective postdocs interested in joining the lab should e-mail me to discuss potential research projects and funding opportunities. I am also happy to discuss potential projects with prospective postdocs applying for independent postdoctoral fellowships such as the NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Biology.
Graduate students
Prospective Ph.D. students interested in biogeography, evolutionary ecology, or related topics should contact me before applying with the following attached: 1) CV; and 2) a statement of your academic background and previous research experience, current research interests, and why you want to join the lab. We are unable to consider M.S. students at this time.
Graduate students should apply through the Plant Biology Graduate Program.
I strongly encourage all eligible students to apply for a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. See examples of successful applications here (compiled by Dr. Yaniv Brandvain).
Undergraduate students
Our research relies heavily on undergraduate participation. Undergraduate students in the lab either work for course credit or pay. We typically advertise paid positions near the beginning of each academic semester. Feel free to contact me if you are interested in learning more about opportunities for undergraduate research in the lab.
Post-bacs
Some of our field research happens during the fall months when undergraduates are taking classes, and we regularly hire post-bac technicians (college graduates who are not currently enrolled in a graduate program) to help with this work. These positions are ideal for those who are interested in pursuing graduate school but would like to gain hands-on research experience before applying. We advertise these positions broadly, and they can vary from a month or two to several months or more, depending on funding. Please get in touch if you are interested in learning more about these positions.
